On November 23, 2017, the new 600 MHz NMR spectrometer at Department of Chemistry was inaugurated. The event consisted of a series of talks by Tarja R. Kvalheim, Olav M. Kvalheim, and the invited speaksers Eriks Kupce and Tone Frost Bathen at Realfagsbyggeet. Following the talks, the spectrometer was officially inaugurated with ribbon cutting by Rector Dag Rune Olsen and refreshments in the NNP building.

Dr. Eriks Kupce gave a talk which focused lecture focusing new NMR methods, while Dr. Tone Frost Bathen gave a talk about metabolomikk and cancer research at NTNU. Drs. Kvalheim presented their Fjordomics projects.

Thanks to the support of Bergen Research Foundation, Sparebankstiftinga Sogn og Fjordane and Bergen Health Thrust, we have been able to purchase this new and modern spectrometer. The spectrometer is equipped with the latest technology and will provide us with opportunities that we previously did not have. In particular, it can be mentioned that the instrument is tailored to metabolomics which is one of the strongest growing research field in the interface between chemistry, biology and medicine, and with a huge potential in the field of diagnosis, prognosis and treatment.
