Opening symposium at UiO

This event took place on the 4th of May 2016 and celebrated the culmination of a process that started in 2010 with the goal of establishing a National Norwegian NMR Platform (NNP) which would provide support for a wide variety of NMR-related sciences in Norway. The UiO with its eight superconducting magnets is one of the NNP nodes. NNP is funded by the Research Council of Norway and led to the installation of both a new Avance HDIII 400MHz and a new Avance HDIII Ascend 800MHz at UiO.

The event highlighted current science at the NNP nodes: the University of Bergen (UiB), the Norwegian University of Sciences and Technology (NTNU) and the University of Oslo (UiO). It included several presentations discussing current and new capabilities offered by the NNP infrastructure. In addition, the participants had the opportunity to visit the NMR-Center.

The UiO NMR-Center has existed since 1966 and has grown from its deep roots in organic chemistry to become a multi science center. The Center is an important part of the section for organic chemistry, and is serving many private companies in addition to providing NMR capability for the whole UiO institution as well as the Oslo University Hospital. Many external institutions are associated with the NMR-Center exemplified by the National Veterinary Institute (NVI) and the National Criminal Investigation Service (KRIPOS).
